OPENING TONIGHT!!!

AHN HEE-SUN
IN THE FLOWER GARDEN
TUESDAY 03 JULY - SATURDAY 21 JULY

In the Flower Garden is to be opened by Korean Cultural Office, Chief Officer
Dr. Dong-ok Lee at NG Art Gallery, Chippendale on Tuesday 3rd July from 6 - 8pm.
Join us for a special musical duet by Bernard Hickey playing classical guitar and Korean musician Ji-Hyun Lee playing Haegeum, a traditional Korean instrument in celebration of the Korean artist Ahn Hee-Sun exhibiting in Australia.
Ahn Hee-Sun has sewn herself a flowerbed rich in colour and personal history. The Korean artist, who has lived in Germany for the past twenty years, will excite with her intricate, patterned cloth pieces. Hee-Sun’s technique combines traditional embroidery and sewing with patterns of flowers and birds reminiscent of folk paintings.
Through this integration of visual mediums, the works combined create a vivid Garden of Paradise, where colour is used with great ease, dancing and playing off each pattern. When viewed as a whole, the tapestry of embroideries can be read like a book of Hee-Sun’s life, a figurative autobiography.

JANE GILLINGS
WHERE'S MY JETPACK?
TUESDAY 24 JULY - SATURDAY 11 AUGUST

Sydney based contemporary artist Jane Gillings, revisits her love of the found object in her upcoming exhibition at NG Art Gallery. Filling the gallery space with brightly coloured trash troops toting rocket and raygun alike, Gillings' latest offering Where's my Jetpack? is a nostalgic reclamation of her own childhood spent dreaming of living like "The Jetsons" and anticipating what this crazy techno-fuelled future we're now in, might hold.
Clearly influenced by the futuristic aesthetic of the pop-tastic 50's and 60's, and the retro signage from sleazy Vegas Boulevards, Gillings' miniature models are humorous souvenirs from where we thought we'd be: in a world full of hover-cars and floating space stations.

BEAMS ARTS FESTIVAL
BEAMING ACTIVITY IN CHIPPENDALE

There is so much to say about BEAMS. It is growing by the minute. Everyday we welcome new input into the festival in the most surprising ways. The lane ways of Chippendale will be filled to the brim and abundant with activity.
Artists will be working in real time creating site-specific sculptural works, including local Chippendale resident artists. Other artists come directly from the local gallery community, Mop, Galerie Pompom, UTS, Tin Sheds, Macmeloi, White Rabbit Gallery and of course NG Art Gallery all contributing in ways that will astound you.
Under the direction of Tim Jones, The Seymour Centre of Sydney University will offer the festival a live comedy performance while the drama students of Notre Dame University are creating a work about love and loss under the tutelage of Jane Bergeron. Performance artists will seduce you with cutting edge performances across all disciplines including The Movement and Friends with Deficits to name just a few.
Other highlights include video projection to be shown in the most unlikely places along with a light projection like no other.
