UPCOMING EXHIBITION

JANE GILLINGS
WHERE'S MY JETPACK?
TUESDAY 24 JULY - SATURDAY 11 AUGUST

Where's My Jetpack? to be opened by Henry Mulholland, artist and visual arts commentator on Tuesday 24 July at NG Art Gallery, Chippendale, from 6 - 8pm.

Jane Gillings transforms plastic found objects and gives them new life in Where's my Jetpack?, a troop of pop-tastic minature creations standing tall in this much anticipated exhibition.

Clearly influenced by the futuristic aesthetic of the 50's and 60's Gillings' miniature models are humorous souvenirs from where we thought we'd be: in a world full of hover-cars and floating space stations.

Gillings' intuitive use of the discarded detritus from our hectic modern lives highlights that while we were busy with our heads in the clouds, concocting a future to rival any Star Trek or Space Odyssey, never did we anticipate it would come laden with so much waste.

ARTISTS WORKSHOP
JANE GILLINGS: SUPERSONIC SCULPTURE LAB
SATURDAY 11 AUGUST 2012 - 3.30PM

INCLUDING 2 COURSE DINNER WITH WINE $125

The possibilities of plastic become a reality when you create your own space-age sculpture using polypropylene scraps and a fifties sense of design. Learn connection methods that do away with glue and create a sleek piece, reminiscent of the curvy shapes of Jean Arp's sculpture and bold colours of Matisse's cut-outs.

Experiment with the challenges of the mobile, made famous by another inspirational experimenter and artist, Alexander Calder. For the budding film director, have a go at animating your artwork for You-Tube fame and fortune. Anything is possible in the Supersonic sculpture Lab!

All materials and tools are supplied. All you need to bring is a pair of working hands and a head full of curiosity.
