PRESIDENT'S WELCOME
CHIPPENDALE CREATIVE PRECINCT

Hello there

I am so excited to present to you our incredibly talented and diverse creative community.

We have many projects underway, one of them being the 2nd edition of the Gallery Guide to Chippendale and Surrounds which is a visually stunning 32 page booklet with a wealth of information about our dynamic gallery community and delicious eateries.

This guide can be found across the COS Info Tourists Booths amongst other locations and hopefully will soon be in the domestic and international airline lounges.

We recently had an article featured in JetWings, an Indian airline in - flight magazine, one of their biggest airline carriers. The article covered the BEAMS Arts Festival and our vision to become the next go to gallery destination.

We are making great headway with our internship program and are very pleased to introduce our collaboration with University of Notre Dame Australia. It is an excellent opportunity for both students and businesses alike.

We have developed and launched the Chippendale New World $100,000 Art Prize to be delivered over 10 years, generously donated to the CCP by Chairman of Frasers Property Australia Dr Stanley Quek in a private capacity to take place in April 2013. This year the theme of the art prize is Revitalisation.

This feeds perfectly into the concept of New World cities, keeping in alignment with all that Chippendale has achieved and cementing its identity as Sydney’s most creative hub. The winner of the New World Art Prize will be offered a 3 month residency at Red Gate in Beijing.

Our new website is well underway and we hope to launch it in a few weeks time. It will feature so many more opportunities to network and become involved with initiatives, as well as more exposure for your business.

Our next Networking Event will be held on Thursday 21st of March at MCLEMOI Gallery 6-8pm. See below for details and hope to see you all there.

MCLEMOI GALLERY
CURRENT EXHIBITION: INNER VISION IN BETWEEN

MCLEMOI GALLERY is pleased to announce "Inner Vision in Between", the opening exhibition of international artists FriendWithYou. This exhibition is a reflection of a journey from one chapter to another. FriendsWithYou artists Sam and Tury jump into a vortex of the unknown, further highlighting the artists' true mission of creation with the embodiment of the living amulet. Animism plays a large role as FriendWithYou continues to explore artifacts of the archetype; minimal, peaceful, stoic, and sometimes foreboding. FriendWithYou's works for this exhibition span the spiritual gamut from play to ritual. Each piece represents a simple dialogue, taking place inside...

NG Art Gallery - Anna Culliton

NG ART GALLERY
CURRENT EXHIBITION: ANNA CULLITON

Former Director of the Australian Museum and former Curator of Mammals at the Queensland Museum, Professor Mike Archer opened Anna Culliton's exhibition Native Pets on Tuesday 26 February at NG Art Gallery to a roaring crowd.

Literally presenting us with "handfuls" of native wildlife, Anna Culliton's third solo exhibition at NG Art Gallery confronts us with an array of Australia’s most treasured marsupials, mammals and cold blooded critters. As with Culliton’s previous exhibitions a certain naivete intrigues us into the heart of her story. Australia’s unique native animals are placed into familiar and intimate surroundings breaking our accepted notions of what is a domestic pet.

CALDIS COOK GROUP
NEWTOWN INTERCHANGE

The $35 million upgrade to Newtown railway station opened to the public early on Monday 29 October 2012. Caldis Cook Group as Principal Architectural Consultant carried out significant design development, detail design, documentation and construction services for this project.  The design also allowed for future proofing planning for a new future platform with stairs and lift down to this platform.

About the Design
A civic space has been created between the existing heritage buildings, linking King Street and the new station building. This creates a strong visual connection with Newtown’s focal area at the intersection of King Street and Enmore Road and providing a more pronounced sense of space and an enhanced sense of place.

INVISIBLE ARTISTS
FINALIST AT TROPFEST

Two Sundays ago, Tropfest celebrated its 20th year and our freshly-minted Creative Director Kevin Lim was a finalist in the competition. Now, we are a little biased here in the office, but we think Kev’s film was a real winner. It’s called The Pledge for Mister Bunny, it’s brilliant, and you can watch it on the Sydney Morning Herald's site here:

Watch now - The Pledge for Mister Bunny

Kev had this to say of his Tropfest experience:

"It's easy to get lost in the hoopla of awards but being at Tropfest and the overwhelming response we've received reminded me of why we make content in the first place - to entertain, collaborate with our friends, and to make new ones."

SABER ASTRONAUTICS
COLLABORATION BETWEEN INDIA & AUSTRALIA

Saber Astronautics sold a small payload, an electrodynamic tether (called "DragEN"), for launch on an Indian satellite at the end of this year. We travelled between Chennai, Bangalore, and Manipal to support the students in integrating the payload as part of a grant from the Australia-India Council to increase the collaboration between Indian and Australian space students, and to see if there's any more space business that can be brought to Aussie shores.

DragEN's will allow responsible deorbit for satellites at the end of its mission life. Current drawn from the tether reacting to space plasma also provides a final source of electric power. This saves cubesats from becoming space junk, whilst simultaneously giving a small power boost in the last two weeks of life..
